Privacy Notice
We want you to feel safe and confident when using our web site. This Privacy Policy deals with personally identifiable information (termed "Data") that we collect.
Is the information I provide confidential?
Yes. We will not provide any information you have provided about individual dogs to third parties (such as other dog owners, private companies, the press or for purposes of law enforcement) unless you give us permission to do so. The information you provide us is also anonymous when it is analysed.
Where is all the information stored?
All information you provide to Dogslife is stored at the University of Edinburgh. All information about your dog will be shared with other partners in the project (The University of Liverpool, The University of Manchester and the Kennel Club) who will each perform their own analysis on the data provided.
What will you do with the information which I detail on the site?
The information about your dog will be analysed using statistics to try and identify management factors (such as exercise or feeding) which may be associated with the risk of developing diseases in the first year of life. We hope to publish any interesting findings about the health, and factors which affect the health of the group of dogs as a whole. We will not identify any dogs in the project in these publications. If it becomes apparent during analysis that we need more information about your dog, and if you have given us permission to contact you then we may do so. Ultimately we hope to publish the results of our analysis in scientific journals.
The personal information about yourself (e-mail address and telephone number) will be used to contact you (but only if you have given us permission to do so). We will contact you with a monthly newsletter detailing the latest findings of the study and news articles which may be of interest to you. We will also remind you to update the information about your dog health on the Dogslife website if you have not already done so.
How long will the information be stored?
All the information you provide to us is extremely valuable. We plan to analyse the data continually, and we hope to follow all the participants for their lifetime. Taking into account the lifespan (which may be up to the late teens) we reserve the right to hold information for up to 20 years from registration.
Editing or Deleting Your Account Information
You can edit the information in your user account that you provided to us when registering by re-configuring your personal page configuration area. If you want us to delete your user account, then we will do so, including the information within it.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may make changes to this Policy from time to time. If we do we will notify you of the changes either by posting a prominent announcement on our site and/or by sending a message to the e-mail address you have provided to us.
No Guarantees
While this Privacy Policy states our standards for maintenance of Data and we will make efforts to meet them, we are not in a position to guarantee these standards. There may be factors beyond our control that may result in disclosure of data. As a consequence, we disclaim any warranties or representations relating to maintenance or nondisclosure of Data.
